During these times of uncertainty, the COVID-19 virus (itself) is not the only issue healthcare professionals are facing. Due to the international surge in Coronavirus cases seen these past few months, healthcare professionals have witnessed a grave depletion in personal protective equipment (PPE).

While it may seem obvious to many, this increasingly problematic situation has healthcare professionals forcing themselves into dangerous territories as they continue to nurse those who have contracted the virus while trying to avoid getting it themselves.

Polymershapes (parent company of PolymerFilms) has entered into a license agreement with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to fabricate affordable and mass-produced disposable face shields that are available right now to health care professionals and those who are on the front line of the pandemic. 

Using the design engineered by MIT Project Manus, the shield is fabricated into a one-piece, ships flat design, making it easy for hospitals and healthcare professionals to rapidly distribute to its employees. Once these boxes of flat plastic film sheets arrive to the promised destination, healthcare professionals are able to easily fold them into 3D shields in just 90 seconds before adjusting them properly to fit their faces. They can then be staged at locations for pick up within hospitals, per that locations’ discretion. 

MIT is donating the first 40,000 face shields produced and Polymershapes will be donating 60,000 shields to predetermined hospitals, EMS, and urgent care facilities.

Order and Production Processes:

• Step 1: The healthcare provider fills out a request form.
• Step 2: The Polymershapes business support team reaches out to the healthcare provider to confirm order details, payment, shipping, and availability. 
• Step 3: Polymershapes / PolymerFilms estimates delivery time frame and produces face shields. They then ship them to the healthcare professional.
• Step 4: Healthcare providers may have the option to subscribe to regular face shipments.
