Product Summary

Ever wonder how doctors, nurses, and paramedics stay focused and safe from splashes in bright, hot, and heady ERs? Their face shields have a lot to do with it. Clear shields that cut glare and fogging while guarding faces from flying fluids play an important part in saving lives.

Dupont™ Teijin’s range of PETF films includes not only the anti-fog and anti-glare Melinex® AG3, but also films perfect for medical packaging, labels, and diagnostic test strips. These films are listed in DuPont Teijin’s Drug Master File of approved healthcare uses. And they come in various grades and gauges designed with specific needs in mind.

As North America’s largest authorized, value-adding distributor of Melinex® and Mylar® PETF films with five film centers – three in the USA, one in Canada, and one in Mexico – PolymerFilms makes it fast and easy to order PET films for your medical product needs. Product Benefits

Ideal for visors, the AG3 grade cuts glare to combat eye fatigue, helping to reduce errors by medical staff

Ideal for visors, the AG3 grade cuts glare to combat eye fatigue, helping to reduce errors by medical staff

Corona and chemical treatments available to enhance printability and adhesion in laminated products

Easy to cut, roll, laminate, and metallize, and maintains its thickness for consistent product quality

PET is the world’s most recycled polymer, so waste offcuts and old products can be reprocessed and reused, reducing your environmental impact

Retains its shape and properties under extreme temperature changes such as when heat-sealing and in standard sterilization processes

Easy to insert into reading devices

With better thermal stability than PETG and PVC, diagnostic strips made with Melinex® ST329 retain their shape and stability at temperatures up to 446°F (230°C) for registration during strip printing

No migration of species to the surface over time, preventing the risk of contamination

High flatness before and after thermoforming/lamination (0.5-3.0%, depending on grade and gauge)

Available in opaque white, translucent white, or clear, with a matte or glossy finish according to need

High tear strength (0.7 lbf / 3.1 N, ASTM D1004) makes it ideal in laminates for sterilized medical pouches

Superior to paper liners on high-speed label lines where tearing hampers productivity

Choose from a wide range of gauges according to need

Films can be uncoated, prepared for metallization or adhesion of dielectric ink, or gelatine-coated for hydrophobicity

Ideal substrate for UV, rotogravure, or flexographic processes

Challenges and Solutions

1.
Your firm is bidding to supply face shields to a major hospital with a busy ER. You need a material that both protects wearers and minimizes fatigue during long shifts.
Face shields made with Melinex® AG3, a cost-effective, lightweight anti-glare/anti-fog film, provides medical staff with splash protection, reduced fogging, and reduced eye fatigue from glare.

2.
Your hospital client now requires sustainability tracing through their supply chain for their ESG commitment, so they need the diagnostic strips to be environmentally friendly. Failure could lead to losing the client.
Melinex® 329 and 339 test strips are made of PETF, which is the world's most recycled polymer and can be produced from plant-derived raw materials. These films are made using post-consumer recycled materials[TM1] .
Solve
3.
You need to produce sterilizable pouches for a medical device. They must be highly impermeable to oxygen and moisture, and feature color printing.
Mylar® M813 is outstanding here. It can be metallized with vacuum-deposited aluminum or bonded to aluminum foil to protect against moisture and oxygen permeation is tougher than polypropylene and polyethylene, and is pretreated for high ink adhesion and rarely requires priming, so it’s cost-effective for printing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Just ask our helpful Sales team, who will be happy to supply you with the specifications to help you decide.

The range of possible substrates is large, but depending on the grade, common ones include LDPE, LLDPE, EVA, ionomer, acid copolymer, PVC or other materials using adhesive or extrusion laminating techniques. If you need a robust gas barrier, a layer of aluminum foil, PVdC EVOH, barrier adhesive may be placed between Mylar® MLB and the sealant layer.
