LEXAN™ Polycarbonate UV Films

Product Summary

Outdoor graphics, labels, and overlays require more than strong visual appeal. They must withstand prolonged exposure to sunlight, changing temperatures, moisture, and demanding operating environments without sacrificing print quality or fabrication flexibility.

The LEXAN™ UV Film Series from POLYVANTIS combines enhanced UV resistance with the impact strength, dimensional stability, printability, and processability of LEXAN™ polycarbonate film. Designed for outdoor and high-performance graphic applications, these transparent films support screen printing with traditional solvent-based and water-based inks and can be processed through thermoforming, embossing, die-cutting, hydroforming, and bending.

Three surface combinations are available to support different optical and aesthetic requirements:

  • LEXAN™ UV8010 Film: High-gloss surface with excellent clarity
  • LEXAN™ UV8A35 Film: Velvet finish on one side and polished finish on the other
  • LEXAN™ UV8B35 Film: Velvet finish on one side and matte finish on the other

Whether your application requires clear visibility, reduced glare, a tactile surface, or a durable substrate for second-surface printing, PolymerFilms can help you select the appropriate grade, finish, gauge, and converting solution.

All grades available with UV resistance, subject to vendor minimum order volumes.

Challenges and Solutions

1.
Your graphic must be formed into a three-dimensional component.
LEXAN™ UV films are designed for processing through thermoforming, embossing, die-cutting, hydroforming, and bending, making them suitable for formed overlays, equipment graphics, and in-mold decoration.
Solve
2.
Glare makes your outdoor display or HMI difficult to read.
Choose LEXAN™ UV8B35 Film. Its velvet/matte surface combination provides greater diffusion and reduced gloss for low-glare graphic overlays, labels, and displays.
Solve
3.
Your graphic needs a refined texture without completely obscuring the image beneath it.
Choose LEXAN™ UV8A35 Film. Its velvet surface offers a tactile, low-gloss appearance, while the polished reverse side supports printing and visual depth.
Solve
4.
Your printed overlay requires high clarity and minimal haze.
Choose LEXAN™ UV8010 Film. Its high-gloss surface provides greater than 90% light transmission and less than 0.5% haze for clear windows, transparent overlays, and high-visibility graphics.
Solve
5.
Your application requires outdoor durability but does not need a hard-coated surface.
LEXAN™ UV Film provides a cost-conscious option for outdoor graphics that require enhanced UV resistance, excellent printability, thermoformability, and fabrication flexibility. For applications requiring maximum scratch or chemical resistance, PolymerFilms can help evaluate whether a hard-coated LEXAN™ grade is more appropriate.
Solve
6.
Your outdoor equipment graphics fade or discolor prematurely.
LEXAN™ UV films are engineered with improved UV resistance while retaining the printability, durability, and processing flexibility of polycarbonate film. The series is suited for outdoor equipment graphics, overlays, decals, and labels exposed to the elements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Polycarbonate film provides good impact durability, but these UV grades are not hard-coated films. Applications requiring enhanced abrasion, scratch, or chemical resistance may require a hard-coated LEXAN™ grade.

The datasheets list nominal gauge ranges extending from approximately 0.005 to 0.030 inch, although the minimum listed gauge for UV8010 is 0.007 inch. Actual stock availability and minimum order quantities should be confirmed with PolymerFilms.

Yes. The films support screen printing with traditional solvent-based and water-based inks and are designed to provide good printability without pretreatment. Ink, adhesion, and processing compatibility should always be validated under actual production conditions.

LEXAN™ UV8A35 Film has a velvet/polished surface configuration, while LEXAN™ UV8B35 Film has a velvet/matte configuration. UV8A35 provides less haze and a polished reverse surface, while UV8B35 provides greater diffusion and lower gloss.

LEXAN™ UV8B35 Film is the best starting point for applications requiring greater diffusion and reduced glare. It features velvet and matte surfaces and reports greater than 90% haze.

LEXAN™ UV8010 Film is the clearest grade in the series. It provides greater than 90% light transmission and less than 0.5% haze according to the product datasheet.

LEXAN™ UV Film combines the core properties of polycarbonate film with improved resistance to UV exposure. It is designed for outdoor and high-performance graphics where standard film may not provide sufficient weathering performance.
